Prism

In this respect, I speak on the Prism, application that allows you to create shortcuts to web sites directly on the desktop - in "browser itself."

Introduction
And there or not there is a "web 2"? I think not! What exists is an evolving web of how a once knew. You, when learning something new or do something that could not, or is easily something that was not difficult, vai office for the exchange of name?
Keeping up the appropriate proportions, this is what someone did want to "rename" the web, and "people" fell…
There is, yes, actually, resources that are possible to obtain, techniques that are more easily implemented, technologies that did not exist, applications that facilitate this. No need to change the name of nothing… Just know that, today, there is a greater range of possibilities for web development, benefiting both users as developers. One such "trend" is trying to do the web sites of the closest possible desktop applications.
Accordingly, the Prism is a great!
The explanation "official", extracted (and freely translated) the Mozilla Labs, is:
PRISM is an application that allows users to share web applications out of their browsers and implement them directly to your desktop.
Technically speaking, how the program works?
Well, now that the concept was given, I will continue with the explanation that is given according to what I understand about the program.
It appears that in the Mozilla wiki, "tchan" the Prism is that it is based on a technology called "Site Specific Browsers" (SSB), which, through an integrated browser, working exclusively with a single web application - without specifying de / Tuesday menus, toolbar, the status bar, etc..
That is, you install the program, following some simple steps and has an icon that directs to a web site / web system, and give special attention to the word "one" because it is literally what you can do: access the address that was configured for the shortcut, no more, no less.
Using Prism
First, you must download and install the program (I am a Windows environment at the time…). Standard procedure, all very calm. The installer creates a shortcut to the program at the options chosen in the facility. In my case, chose to take the shortcut "Start" menu.
Then you should simply go to their submenu and click the program icon. A screen will open.

Here, everything that should be done is to tell which web address whether to create the shortcut and the name you want to make, choose to show or not bar location, status and shortcuts for navigation, in which (is) place (s) will be created the shortcut, itself.
In my case, I will make a shortcut to the blogblogs, which is a system that I find particularly interesting brasuca. I do not want to have bar location, status, or shortcuts. I will only create a shortcut on the desktop.

And for every shortcut that you want, just rerun the Prism. And a hint: basically, what you have is a shortcut, more or less like any other, so it is possible to amend its icon. It is more organized, if you have various shortcuts and want to find one, in particular, is fast and practical and, moreover, is more beautiful! :-)
Final
Personally, I found the intention of creating very "noble" and, to some extent, very creative. I think that was, yes, one more big step towards "desktopização" of web applications.
Finally, I leave the report of an experience: being aware that the Prism is especially useful when you want to provide an online system for customers (and friends) laity and / or impatient when it comes to computers and PCs in general.
Last week, Gevã and I finish to develop a system for PJF, the "target" of such a system is, basically, who has no intimacy with the web, limited to a maximum of check emails . We opted to install the Prism, to test. The results could not have been better!
In addition to ease of use of the system that end users have - simply click on an icon on the desktop to begin using it - we ourselves "spare" time for development, given the fact that the Prism run on Gecko, and hence, render similarly to Firefox, we have not had to concern ourselves in implementing IE hacks to ensure the correct rendering of pages.
Thanks to the same penalty and, as I said, strongly recommend the use of Prism, especially for cases where end users are inexperienced and / or you want to "save resources" with the development, since the rendering of pages is faithful to Most web standards.
Article from Mozilla Labs announced that the official incorporation of the then project Webranner to their "repertoire."
