Domain names with characters of the English language

In this article, revelo my belated discovery regarding the announcement of the registro.br regulating the permission of registration of areas with "special characters."
Unfortunately I do not have much time to surf the web as I want; mainly read the feeds that assino, which I love! This morning, trying to "make up for lost time", while by the latest news from pixeladas random, I read a very interesting story: the registro.br, through one of its ads, now allows the choice of domain names containing characters in the English language, which is pronounced vowels and cedilha.
The crux of the technology works by converting the addresses containing special characters for Ascii in a coding compatible with the DNS system.
An interesting excerpt of the ad is:
For the record, there is an equivalence (EQUI) in the comparison of domain names as was already done in the case of the hyphen. The mapping will be carried out converting to the characters and accented cedilha, respectively, for their versions not marked and "c". Only will be allowed the registration of a new field when there are no equivalence to a field pre-existing, or where the applicant is the same entity that holds the equivalent field. Thus, it is avoided trick users into error and does not create a race record of the names.
For example, someone can only register "www.ímã.com.br" case "www.ima.com.br" does not exist or who want to be the holder of this record.
As a curiosity, this ad also "decreed" that for the protection of individual privacy, the postal addresses and phone numbers of individuals no longer will appear in the whois server.
