Analyzing some of the statistics for web development, realized that a person has made the search for "Definition of accessibility and connection with design." Unfortunately it did not match what they wanted on the site, but if she or any other back to do this research, the result will be positive. Here is the article on Definition of accessibility and connection with Design! :-)
Definition: What is accessibility?
The term "accessibility" has many meanings, depending on how it is interpreted, who speaks and the area to which it relates. In general, accessibility refers to the fact that something be accessible to people, whatever they may be, are the means that are using whatever, are their difficulties and limitations may be.
This is a concept "ideal" that certainly is not reached at all times. But is what everyone involved with the activities in that accessibility has significant importance should bear in mind.
For example, a public agency that organizes and provides a competition but has no infrastructure so that people with special needs have access to the classroom (whether by failing to spot ramps, elevators with small doors, etc.) is preventing access to these people.
Web Accessibility
In the search, here on the blog, I believe that the person would like a definition of accessibility in a context returned to the web, clear, and it is this aspect that I will make.
Accessibility Web site refers to be accessible í able to whom the visit. Very easy, very simple! Theoretically, this is all there is to be said. Now, as accessibility vai giving "are another 500"…
The web developer must follow many rules of accessibility, these rules developed and developed especially for hits in the virtual environment. In our case, rules specially designed to be known and implemented in idealization, construction and maintenance of web sites.
Ideally one brief concept is correct, in practice, is much more complex and lengthy to provide web accessibility.
In the case of web accessibility, the W3C defined the "Guidelines for accessibility to web content", or WCAG. Basically, these guidelines advise, instruct, which should make the developers of web and / or fail to do in contexts of web development. What, if implemented, will benefit, which, if not implemented, will be evil when people access the sites.
Accessibility and connection with Design
The design, specifically in the case, the Web Design, have much connection with the accessibility! A good web design must be consistent with the accessibility. A site must have good layout, good structure, good design and be accessible í level. Of course, we are again in the "world of theories." In practice, to develop a site that serves these (and other) objectives is quite complex. Someone push it on the head of customers, please! :-D
So the way we think, accessibility has connection with the design from the moment they both, together, move closer to the maximum possible the concept ideal above, in order to allow anyone, anywhere, using any type of device, has a pleasant experience (much to do with usability, too), who find easy ways for the tasks and / or parts of the site that it is more useful.
Conclusion on accessibility and connection with design
What was said in this article is, actually, a short approach. When it comes to accessibility and design, other "clusters" in Web development to be taken into account as usability, information architecture, good planning, proper application of technology, and many others.
All this added to a good interface, visual elements and pleasant lightness in the shipment, in my view are a good alliance between accessibility and design, and serve as auxiliary lot to the visitor has access to the most important: Tell ú do!
